In the summer of 2019, Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering, Inc.’s (FAME, Inc.) STEMulate® Change Outreach Initiative reached more than 130 students, grades 4-6, through two school sites at A.I. High School and W.T. Chipman Middle School. Participating students were engaged in out-of-school, Project Based Learning (PBL) activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Starting in October, 2019, STEMulate® Change transitioned from summer to school-year programming. Since that time, STEMulate® Change has served 55 students, grades 3-5, through three site locations at Mote Elementary School (20 students), Heritage Elementary School (20 students), and Warner Elementary School (15 students). All schools are part of the Red Clay Consolidated School District which is located in Wilmington, Delaware.
Fall sessions began the week of Monday, October 14th and will conclude the week of Monday, December 16th through Culmination Ceremonies at each site. Sessions lasted for approximately10 weeks with hour long lessons occurring 2 to 3 times per week. FAME, Inc. will continue to offer school-year programming to Mote, Heritage, and Warner Elementary Schools in through the New Year. Additional schools sites, including Lewis, Richardson Park, and Thomas Edison Charter School are also planned to begin in 2020.
FAME, Inc. would like to thank our students, families, community members, and Global Giving supporters – thanks to you all, we have been able to achieve success in 2019 and beyond! Happy Holidays and New Year!
