Spring update from St Mungo's

By Lucy Cowham | Corporate Partnerships Executive

Thank you for your continued support of St Mungo's. With your help, we are furthering our ambition to end homelessness, for good. We are pleased to share an update about St Mungo's latest achievements and how we will be supporting people experiencing homelessness this spring.

In the past quarter, across all our client facing services:

  • St Mungo’s provided support and accommodation to 2,851 people on average each night;
  • Our 13 Outreach services worked with 3,448 individuals who were rough sleeping, supporting them in the first step towards recovery from homelessness;
  • We worked with 4,791 individuals across our housing related support services;
  • We worked with 12,277 individuals in total and ran 150 services across London, the South East and the South West.

These achievements would not have been possible without your support, thank you.

International Women’s Day

We highlighted women’s experiences of homelessness in our #MungosVisibleWomen campaign.

Women experiencing homelessness are often hidden from help. As well as this, many services don’t tailor for specific needs. Almost half of St Mungo’s female clients have experienced domestic violence. Yet according to Homeless Link, only 11% of homelessness services in England offer single-sex accommodation.

St Mungo’s understands the unique needs of women who have experienced homelessness, and with 17 specialised women only projects across the UK, we have the tools and resources to help.

We’re here for women experiencing homelessness, and your organisation can be too.

Sophia’s story

You're much less likely to see a woman sleeping rough. They could be sofa surfing. Living in squats. Or sleeping on buses. Because for a woman, being visible on the streets is dangerous. Sadly, hiding from harm often means women are hidden from help. But St Mungo's is here for women experiencing homelessness. With bespoke support. Women only services. And dedicated, expert staff.

At just 22 years old, Sophia ended up on the streets. She would sleep in empty buildings and spend all day on the tube just to stay safe.

“As a woman, it’s 100% different. You get a lot of people asking you for sexual favours. I used to tell them no, even though I needed the cash. But people would approach me for that quite often.” Sophia, St Mungo’s client

Help women like Sophia to be heard by sharing our video.

Thank you!

We hope you are proud of your hard work to help us achieve our ambition – that no one should ever have to sleep rough and that everyone should be able to realise their potential. St Mungo's vital services could not be done without your continued support and generosity. Thank you for helping us to end homelessness and rebuild lives.
