This year, St. Damien Pediatric Hospital celebrated a powerful milestone: 35 years of serving Haiti’s children and families. In a joyful celebration led by Fr. Rick Frechette and Dr. Pascale Gassant, our staff gathered to honor decades of dedication, even in the face of immense national hardship. Through it all, your support has helped make this legacy possible. Today, your impact continues to grow.
In our Pediatric Oncology Unit, the only one in the country, we are treating children with nearly every form of cancer, including leukemia, lymphoma, and retinoblastoma. In 2024, we recorded 164 consultations.
Meanwhile, in our high-risk maternity unit, we’ve provided critical care for over 1,300 in 2024. Conditions like eclampsia and hemorrhage are life-threatening without intervention, but here, mothers and babies are given a fighting chance. In 2024, there were 563 natural deliveries and 601 C-sections at St. Damien.
And in our Malnutrition Program, 77 children were admitted in 2024, many arriving with secondary infections and severe wasting. Through weeks of therapeutic feeding and medical treatment, our team helps them stabilize, recover, and thrive.
Every child treated, every mother saved, and every milestone celebrated is all because of you. As we reflect on 35 years of impact, we remain focused on the future, knowing that with your continued support, we can keep saving lives for generations to come.
Thank you for walking this journey with us.
