Dear Friends and Family,
The complex issues we experience every day in Myanmar are increasingly becoming global conversations. What was once viewed as a localized crisis now mirrors the very questions communities everywhere are striving to answer, highlighting interconnected struggles that we have quietly navigated for years.
In Kalaw, an unusually early monsoon season has brought severe flooding back to our doorstep. Yet, despite the rising waters and ongoing hurdles, our work does not stop. We remain fully grounded in our mission, adapting and pushing ahead to serve our neighbors to the absolute best of our abilities.
We are thrilled to share that over the last few months, we’ve hosted several training groups and officially launched new English Language Classes at Sprouting Seeds!
New English Language Classes
One of our core team members, who has been with us for several years, recently returned to Kalaw after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Education. We are so grateful for the dedication, expertise, and energy she brings back to our team.
Under her guidance, we have launched four levels of English Language classes at Sprouting Seeds. Designed for multi-age and multi-level learners, these classes draw students from all across Kalaw. Additionally, young women from the village surrounding the Whispering Earth Training Centre are participating in our café internship program, attending these English classes as a core part of their scholarship.
Trainings & Networking: The Power of Community Connection
It has been a joy to host multiple groups over the past month for diverse, hands-on workshops at the café center.
As many of you know, our director, Jim, has been pursuing his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees over the last three years. Through this journey, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with inspiring global networks, including the Capra Course with Fritjof Capra, Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects, and soon, Theory U and the U-Lab with Otto Scharmer at MIT.
He is weaving this deep dive into child development, trauma-healing, regenerative design, and systems theory directly into our local programming—sharing these frameworks with our growing network of educators, teachers, and grassroots leaders. Alongside this academic integration, we continue to offer practical capacity-building workshops in soap making, natural building, bakery, and café livelihood skills for partners across the country.
Internship Program
We are also deeply grateful to share that our café has now been continuously open for over nine months—a major milestone given the political and economic challenges of recent years. This stability allows our 3-month internship program to run strong once again, welcoming regular cohorts of young learners.
While the broader situation in Myanmar remains extremely challenging, creating these practical opportunities is more vital than ever. For youth who struggle to see hope in the near future, Sprouting Seeds aims to be a steady space of warmth, skill-building, and encouragement.
Thank you for your continued support, which makes this work possible every single day.
With warmest regards,
The Sprouting Seeds Family
