Dear Friends and Family,
We trust this finds you all doing well and continuing to stay happy and healthy where ever you may be around the globe.
If you continue to follow the news about Myanmar, you are aware that things have not been able to improve here. The struggles continue each day, escalating worse in several regions of the country. Most notably here in Kalaw it is clear to see the economic challenges the country faces. With more and more limits placed on goods, the cost of living here is skyrocketing! Things have increased between 3 to 5 times, meanwhile daily labor fees have barely seen an increase. It all contributes to a very, very difficult situation.
The opportunities for youth in Myanmar are growing smaller and smaller each day.
For this reason, we are so thankful for our home here in Kalaw and our two trainings centres which are now more easily able to run again after several years. It is still extremely challenging, but we are now able to bring in another group of ethnic teachers for our teacher training internship program at the café training centre here in town.
We so happy that we now have several teachers from Pa-O and Danu areas here in Shan State going through our internship program. The teachers are so excited to be joining us and are so active and enthusiastic, ready to learn as much as they can to bring back to the monastic school where they work.
The interns have already been with us for the last month and the program is running very well. They girls are learning all the usual skills, but now are also working with a local seamstress and learning a diverse range of sewing skills.
With rainy season quickly moving upon us, the girls are also working with seeds and getting trees and seedlings ready to move out to our Whispering Earth training centre in the village.
Learning opportunities and chances for growth are so limited these days in Myanmar. We are so grateful for your support and contributions to our work here. With your support we are able to run this program once again and offer capacity building, training and awareness raising to young teachers from across the country!
We look forward to sharing more news with you over the next few months!
Thank you for all your kindness and support for the people of Myanmar!
