Sponsoring Kolhewadi, new project village of 750

CRHP’s new partnership with Kolhewadi has proven successful over the past few months. With the help and facilitation of our Mobile Health Team, the village of Kolhewadi has selected Vadana Adale as their Village Health Worker (VHW). She is a graduate of the 10^th standard and is a very motivated individual eager to work with her community and CRHP. She has already begun attending CRHP’s bi-weekly VHW trainings. A Women’s Group, consisting of 10 women from the village, now meets with Vadana and CRHP staff members to discuss personal finances, village dynamics, and other relevant topics. Several unique visits have also been made to plant medicinal trees within the village and to begin a kitchen garden project. Beginning January 1, CRHP is beginning a new project, funded by a grant from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), to establish kitchen gardens in individual’s homes and increase nutrition education. Kolhewadi is one of five villages that CRHP is working with initially as a part of this project. To strengthen community participation in health and development projects within the village, CRHP’s social workers have begun meeting regularly with men’s, women’s, and adolescent groups.

Over the next few months, the Mobile Health Team will begin on-site surveys to document the health status and demographics of the village. Once analyzed, education will begin at the village regarding communicable and non-communicable diseases. Farmer’s Clubs and Adolescent Groups will be established and incorporated into our existing programs to put health in the hands of the people.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, CRHP has switched to working with a new Project Village. We are excited to announce our new Project Village Kolhewadi. This partnership began 2 months ago and has since progressed steadily. Members of the Mobile Health Team have completed visits to each home and have used this data to create a social map of each family within the village. As the Mobile Health Team continues to work with Kolhewadi, they find more socially minded individuals and participation among both men and women is excellent. Currently, CRHP and the Kolhewadi community are in the process of identifying their Village Health Worker (VHW). Once chosen, she will begin weekly trainings with other VHWs on CRHP’s campus.

Two weeks ago, the Mobile Health Team and several International Volunteers planted trees in Kolhewadi to promote environmental sustainability. In the upcoming months, environmental education and sanitation will be emphasized through group meetings and demonstrations. In the next weeks, a survey will be conducted with the help of the community to identify the health status of community members and current community organizations. Farmers’ Clubs and Women’s Self-Help Groups will also be formed, and the Adolescent Girls and Boys Program will be introduced in the coming months. Communicable and non-communicable disease control, education, prevention, and action will be taught to Farmers’ Club and Self-Help Group members. They will then gain responsibility for teaching the rest of the village. Over time and through increased interactions between CRHP professionals and the Kolhewadi community, the livelihoods of each class and caste will change to create gender and social equality.
