Education for 300 Urban Poor Children

Let's hear the story from a sponsored child to see how her life changed.

Sreynit is 17 years old and in grade 10^th of Baktuk High School. She is a single daughter in the family. Her father is a security and her mother is a factory worker. 

She mentioned that "Before, I did not have courage in my family and in the classroom. I was scared to tell my parents about the result of the study and any problems. In my class, I did not dare to raise my hand when answering questions. I do not have enough money to pay for extra tuition fees, so I have not learned a mathematic, chemistry. That is why, my study result was not well at grade 6^th and 7^th. One day my friend told me about Sunshine Cambodia (SC), who supports to her school supplies/materials, school uniforms and paid her school fees."

However, when she was selected into SC program since 2017, everything is different from previous time. SC provides her school supplies/materials and school uniforms and we paid her school fees and extra tuitions fees with private school.

She added "through these supports and help from SC and staff, now I have an opportunity to study extra class in Mathematic and chemistry as other friends and SC staff and my parents always encourage me to study hard both at school and home and they also do follow-up with my study result. In addition, I myself study hard at School and home. I also have an opportunity to attend Youth’s club with other friends. So in the Youth’s club I also have learned many topics from SC staff in which related to me as well as child’s rights, health and hygiene and child abuse etc. Through Youth’s club it makes me increase my knowledge, attitude and courage. Firstly, now I have knowledge, courage and self-confidence to raise my hand when answering questions in the classroom. Secondly, I dare to tell about my study result and any problems to my parents. When they saw my study result, they were very excited and very appreciated. Actually, I passed a bachelor's degree (Grade 9^th). I’m really proud of my study result. Finally, I would like to thank SC and staff and my parents always support and encourage me."
