Let's hear from Chhailek...
Chhailek is 10 years old and in 4th grade of Toul Sophea Khoun primary school. He is an orphan and now he lives with his foster mother who is a widow. He comes from Prey Veng province. Currently he lives with his foster mother in Prey Tea village, Sangkat Chomchao, Phnom Penh city and his mother is a tailor. His mother said that” before my family met many problems and challenges. Firstly, I had financial problem because I worked alone to support the whole family both daily food, room fee and Chhailek’s study. Secondly, ChhaiLek is a quiet boy and lazy student and he does not love talking and playing with other friends in the class because he is not brave boy. Finally, Chhailek’s behavior is not good in the family. It means that he did not respect and obey me. When he went to somewhere with someone, he did not tell or inform me who is mother in advance. So I always looked for him every time. All of these it really made me feel so disappointed with him.”
After Chhailek was selected into SC program on 03rd June, 2014, he learns many topics from SC’s club and teachers such as child’s rights, health and personal hygiene, good morality and self-confidence etc. During the club ChhaiLek also joins activities with SC teachers and his friends as well as bible study, singing, dancing, watching cartoon movies, painting, playing game and group discussion etc. and SC teachers always encourage him to study hard and join all activities with his friend. SC teachers also visit Chhailek’s family regularly to do follow up with his study and daily livelihood so on. “All of these support and help from SC and teachers, it really contributes to make Chhailek change a lots.” His mother said.
Chhailek said happily that “I am so happy that now I changed a lot from my previous bad habits, behavior and personality. Firstly, now I showed more respect and obedience to my mother as well as my aunt and uncle. I always informed my mother in advance whenever I go to somewhere so that she will not too concern about me. I started to study harder by reading books both at school and home. As a result, my study’s result is better now. Secondly, I have good morality and bravery. Now I am an active boy. I love talking, playing, involving activities at school and club. In addition, I also helped my mother to do the house works when I am free from studying. Finally, I have good personal hygiene both at home and school. I always took a bath and brushes my teeth regularly, so I go to school and SC’s club with clean clothes and uniform.’’
Let's hear from Rachana..
Rachana, 9, lives in Stoeung Mean Chey with her mother. She has a brother; he is 17. Her mother sells vegetables at Daem Kor market. She is now in grade 3. She was a coward girl. Previously, she did not share any of her problems to other, even to her mother.
However, after she attends children’s club this year; she has learned many things regarding the child’s rights. During our visit to her house, we are told by her mother that she is brave now. “She told me her issues at school; sometimes, her friends said some bad words to her, she informed her teacher.” Her mother said.
“Last time, though I was not well or got sick, and I could not go to school, I dared not tell my mother. Now, I tell my problems to my mother. I feel happy. I love my study; I want to be an accountant.” Rachana said. “Actually, her school result’s is very good now. She goes to school regularly. She loves her studies very much. Moreover, she helps me to do housework.” Her mother added.
Let's hear from Sovanrima..
A girl named Sovanrima, 14, who is in grade 9 and lives in Tropaing Anchanh village. She has 3 sisters; her father is a police officer and her mother is a housewife. We are told that before she had not a good school result. “Before my study at public school was not good. I was a lazy student and did not study very hard both at school and at home. I did not care about my study, especially, math. I, therefore, could not catch up the lesson well. My parents also did not encourage me to study hard; they did not care about my study. Moreover, my family has not enough money for me to study the extra classes. As a result, my school result was not really good,” she said.
A significant change happened in her life concerning her studies. She becomes a good student when she has received support from SC such as school supplies/materials, uniforms, and extra tuition fees. She has hope and willing to study hard for her future. “Now I am able to catch up my lessons well both English and math. My school result is good now comparing to the previous time,” Sovanrima added. Nowadays she also teaches English to children at a private school as a part-time teacher. She gets 40$ per month from her teaching. She wants to be a doctor in the future.
On behalf of them, we would like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DONATION to support them.
