Warm and Sunny Christmas Greetings to all our sponsors, donors and Sunshine friends!
Whether you’ve only recently signed on, or have been supporting Sunshine families for many years, this update comes with much love and appreciation from all those on the receiving end of your kindness.
5 ways your gifts have made a real impact this past year….
1. THANK YOU from Somaly ...
Sponsorship money is supporting Somaly to attend University, where she is in her second year. July was a good month for her ...
She was offered a position as (part-time) hotel receptionist!
Why is that a big deal? It means Somaly is now able to generate (much needed) income for herself and her family, whilst still continuing with her studies.
To be in this position (both work and study-wise), is the stuff of dreams when you’ve started life where Somaly did.
We are so proud of her. She is so grateful to you.
2. THANK YOU from Rachana...
Rachana is 9 years old and in Grade 3. She is now the proud owner of a beautiful shiny new bike, which she uses to get to school and Sunshine Kids Club.
The bike was not a gift. She had to save, and then Sunshine subsidised her purchase. It’s a great achievement for Rachana and all Sunshine families who manage to save, something that’s not possible when living “hand to mouth”.
3. THANK YOU from Mrs Somhoeun ...
Mrs Somhoeun is a widower with 2 children (Vandy and Liza) on the Sunshine programme.
Recently she was in a motor bike accident and unable to work. Whilst Sunshine focuses on hand "ups" (rather than "outs"), there are times when families face genuine crises and need extra help.
Mrs Somhoeun, Liza and Vandy are so grateful for the emergency aid, kindness and compassion shown to them during their recent crisis.
4.THANK YOU from all 350 sponsored Sunshine kids and youth ...
Their Christmas has arrived early!
These boxes are full of books, pens and pencils, purchased with your donor dollars.
Each year in November, the kids are issued with their school supplies for the school year ahead. It’s a glorious day for the kids, as well as staff - who get to play “Santa”.
5. THANK YOU from Sunshine’s newest fifth community ...
Access to education and clean drinking water are “givens” for our own kids but were not for Sunshine’s newest children. Thank you to all who’ve stepped up to support this community.
THANK YOU from Sreyvan (9 years old), and all the other kids who now have access to clean drinking water ...
... and from these 3 students (and all the other Sunshine kids from Community 5), now proudly making their way to school every day.
Thank you again for all of your gifts – large and small.
They have not ended up in the garbage.
Rather, they have brought Blessing, New Life and New Beginnings.
Merry Christmas one and all!
Sunshine staff, governing board of director, and families join together in wishing you every blessing this Christmas season and for the New Year ahead.
With very grateful hearts,
Channy NOP
