Child’s Voice for Environmental Issues
About Sunshine Cambodia’s Project: Our goal is to see the implementation of the children’s basic rights occur in their family, school, and community. We support children to attend the formal education in both state and private schools. As the results, they have got knowledge and skills. Some of them are studying at university and some have jobs. Some families are able to buy some necessary stuff for their family’s needs, while some managed to run a small business.
This project provides a chance to the children to voice out to their community. Practically, Cleaning Day was conducted in all areas where SC works in. This environmental event, cleaning day, was a message to all people who live in the community. It was the voice of the children concerning a clean environment and community to people who live there. It really attracted and alerted many kinds of people to attend this event. Actually, many different kinds of participants joined the event. They were her excellency and officers from the Ministry of Environment, person in charge of the social affair from Khan Mean Chey, Sangkat chief and deputy, village leaders and guards, polices, NGO partners and donors’ representatives, teachers and students from Sansom Kosal primary school, SC’s families and some of community members, SC’s children and some of their friends.
Let's hear the children’s voices.
Raksa, a girl who drew a picture for this event, expressed that the reason she drew this picture because she wants to show other people who live in her community do not throw the rubbish everywhere they want to, but in the rubbish bin. “Environment is very important. When we throw the rubbish badly it causes bad pollution in our community. We, therefore, must throw rubbish properly. This will bring us good health and nice living, ” Raksa said.
Srey Yen said, “I am very happy when I attended the cleaning day. I see my village is clean now. When I saw rubbish in the school compound I picked them and threw them into the rubbish bin, and I told my friends to throw the rubbish properly. I want to have this event again to show and remind the villagers about cleaning the village and their houses”.
Channeng said, “I am excited to attend this cleaning day event. I want my village is clean. I also want to see people in my village take their responsibility to clean the community. It brings us healthy. To keep my community clean I brought three of my friends to join this event.
