I’m so happy that my bad habit and behaviour were changed...
Borey is 8 years old and now he is in grade 1. He has one sister and three brothers and he is the third son in his family. His family was moved from Phnom Penh city to the outskirt of the city because the government needed that area to be developed. His father is a construction worker and his mother is a vegetable seller. They all have low education, so they are very difficult to find a good job to supporting family and children’s study. Now he lives in a small house in Tropang Anhchanh I village with his family.
Before Borey was a silent child in the class, he mostly did not join any school activities with other friends although his teachers encouraged him to attend; he still did not speak or play with other friends in the class and child’s club. Moreover, he dressed with unclean clothes and his body was very dirty and bad smelly because he rarely took a bath or brushed his teeth. Exactly he did not have good hygiene both at home and school and he was also not an active and a brave child in the class.
After he has been selected into the programs of Sunshine Cambodia (SC) by November 2017, he learned a lot about hygiene and the benefits for good health from Sunshine Cambodia teachers in the child’s club. SC teachers always encourage him to attend any school and club activities among other friends and on how to live with the good hygiene.
He said that “I am so happy to join with Sunshine Cambodia’s child’s club and activities and through SC’s program now I change a lot on my previous bad habit and behaviour”. Firstly, now he starts taking a bath and brushing his teeth very day. He always goes to school and club with clean clothes and uniform. Secondly, he is more active in the classes and child’s club, and he has confident to talk with other friends. Finally, he has got self-confidence and bravery to join any school and club activities. As result, he goes to school and club regularly with clean clothes and good hygiene.

My new hope for future plan...
Osaphea is17 years old, in grade 10 and he is a single son in family. His father is a security guard work in Phnom Penh city and his mother is sick and physical disability, so his mother could not do anything to support the family. His family is very poor because there is only one father who works to support the whole family and his study. Currently he lives in a small and old house at Tropang Anhchanh I village and his family was moved from Phnom Penh city to the outskirt of the city because the government need that area to be developed.
Before he did not have enough money to take extra-classes in private school which is necessary in Cambodia while the state school quality is still limited; so his study result at state school was not good which made him hopeless. He has been selected into the programs of Sunshine Cambodia by February 2018.
He said that “I am so happy that I have an opportunity to join with Sunshine Cambodia’s programs. During that time I have been supported to study part time or extra classes; both English language and other general courses”. He added “I not only gain financial support from Sunshine Cambodia’s program, but I also get encouragement and motivation from all Sunshine Cambodia teachers”.
All of these it helps him to build more self-confidence in studying and it also helps him to have hope in the future. He also commits that he will do his best to continue his study because he thinks that education, knowledge and skills can liberate and release him from poverty in the future. As a result, now he gets appreciation from state school and private school teachers and he also receives good scores and result from his study.
Finally he would like to say “Thank you very much to all teacher, staff and especially the sponsors who always help and support me as well as the other poor children in the communities to continue our dream via education”.
