We extend our heartfelt gratitude to two generous donors who contributed $100 each to our school lunch initiative in the Kigezi sub-region of Uganda. While this amount represents a small start toward our larger $50,000 goal, it enabled us to take an important first step in demonstrating the impact of nutritious, plant-based school meals.
Use of Funds:
The $200 received was used to pilot a plant-based lunch at a partner school in the Kigezi sub-region, directly benefiting 60 school children for one school day. The funds covered:
Nutritious plant-based ingredients (beans, groundnuts, rice, green leafy vegetables)
Local cooking fuel
Cook’s stipend for the day
Transport and coordination of supplies
This pilot meal served as a valuable opportunity to build community support and test meal preparation logistics in a rural context.
Impact and Feedback:
60 children received a nutritious, balanced, plant-based lunch.
Teachers reported that students showed great excitment during afternoon classes.
Community members and school staff expressed strong interest in expanding the program, recognizing the nutritional and ethical benefits.
The school has requested continued collaboration pending additional funding.
Next Steps:
We are actively working to raise additional funds to provide consistent plant-based meals in multiple schools across the Kigezi region. We also plan to engage local leaders, farmers, and cooks in scaling the program while keeping it culturally appropriate and sustainable.
We are deeply grateful to the two generous donors who have contributed. Your support made this pilot possible and it’s only the beginning.
