OSNON Academy provides full tuition and boarding scholarships in 2024 to 55 underprivileged children in rural communities ensuring access to quality education and a stable learning environment. The project aims to break the cycle of poverty and uplift low-income communities through providing holistic quality education at no cost ensuring that even in rural communities no one with brilliance is left behind and our students are equipped to contribute to the economy of their communities in future.
The data on out of school children in Nigeria, a country with one of the fastest growing populations leaves a lot lacking in respect of rural communities. For Anambra state where Osnon is located, in 2021 according to the Evidence and Collaboration for Inclusive Development (an NGO) the out of school data on secondary school students is 90,000. Underserved communities lack access to quality education due to underfunded public schools thus perpetuating a circle of poverty and underdevelopment.
The Academy aims to model effective community-based education in Nigeria. Funding OSNON is essential to foster a future of educated youth and provide safe, free, quality education to underserved rural communities. In August 2024, over two thousand students across multiple rural communities applied for 32 spaces at OSNON Academy. OSNON Academy offers full scholarships, covering tuition and boarding, to underprivileged children, providing them with quality education in a nurturing environment.
Within a 6 year span, the project would begin graduating 192 of the most brilliant underprivileged students in rural communities who would have likely being unable to attain that level and quality of education; equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for better career opportunities enabling them contribute positively to their families and communities, equipping them against social and personal vice, leading to broader socioeconomic development and a safer and more equitable society.
