Sidra, a seven-year-old student, is an orphan girl living in Village Abdul Karim Khaskheli. She shared that my uncle dropped me here in the school because I don’t have a mother or father anymore. I have one brother and one sister and both are elder than me, they use to live with uncle at their home. Before this school as there is no other school near to our Village, I used to clean clothes and home than bring water and wood for fire to cook. I never thought that such day will come in my life and I will be in school. And its true as well that my uncle always wished that I could join school and get education. My uncle is a very caring person and he thinks about our future as well as about own his children but his both children are below four years.

Undeniably, neither I could join school nor my uncle wish could be full filled if the ARTS Foundation under GlobalGiving not opened a school in a very remote and rural village like Abdul Karim Khaskheli. The orphan girls are most deprived and vulnerable in rural areas particularly because rural areas are lacking basic amenities like roads, hospital, schools and means of earning and employment.

Pakistan is facing a serious challenge to ensure all children, particularly the most disadvantaged, attend, stay and learn in school. While enrollment and retention rates are improving, progress has been slow to improve education indicators in Pakistan. Currently, Pakistan has the world’s second-highest number of out-of-school children (OOSC) with an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school, representing 44 per cent of the total population in this age group. According to a UNISEF report, Pakistan is home to 4.2 million orphaned children.

 Orphans in Sindh are beyond their constitutional right to have an education provided by the state, as per Article 25-A of our Constitution. Why can these children only be restricted to a life of becoming welders, plumbers, electricians or tailors? Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of these professions, but you have to acknowledge a problem if these are the only options available due to a lack of a formal education provided to a certain group of children; those who do not have parents or have been abandoned. The Sindh High Court has directed the provincial authorities to amend the relevant law about admission of orphans to private schools and colleges.

 The project is providing education and looks after the orphan girls. The aim is to give the orphan girls education with care so that they can grow up like healthy and confident girls. We encourage the older orphan girls to study and help them to find jobs or training opportunities to make them independent.

Each donation of Orphans Scholarship package includes: tuition fee, school materials, and school uniforms. We work with the child's teachers, caregivers and family to ensure everyone is on board to helping your child achieve their goals and take advantage of this opportunity.

This project uses a practical approach in our educational programs that focuses on the needs of children at all stages of development: early childhood, basic education, adolescence and youth. We are committed to seeing them through the beginning of their education until the day they receive their graduation!
