A Compassionate Community: Progress on the Path to a Rescue Center
Dear Donors and Supporters,
Thank you for your continued commitment and generosity towards Stray Paws Loreto’s mission to create a safe haven for stray dogs in Loreto, Baja California Sur. We are excited to share recent progress and highlight our current focus as we work toward establishing a Rescue Center for homeless dogs in our community.
In recent months, our team has concentrated its efforts on monthly spay and neuter campaigns, a vital step in addressing the urgent overpopulation of stray dogs in Loreto. So far in 2024, we have successfully sterilized over 520 dogs in collaboration with other animal welfare groups, including Animalandia, Amigos de Mulege, and a dedicated team of local and regional veterinarians. These efforts have only been possible through the support of more than 90 volunteers who generously give their time and resources to make each campaign a success.
The need for these campaigns has become even more pressing due to a recent surge in stray dog births, which has placed significant strain on our local community. By focusing on sterilization, we aim to prevent future litters and ultimately reduce the number of stray dogs on our streets, promoting a healthier, safer environment for both animals and residents.
Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that, in October, Stray Paws Loreto A.C. was invited to join the newly formed Municipal Animal Protection Committee. This committee, established by the local government, will facilitate collaboration among animal welfare organizations, advocates, and public officials, allowing us to contribute to the development of public policies that protect and improve the welfare of domestic and stray dogs in Loreto. By actively participating in this committee, we aim to advocate for humane practices, support the establishment of a Canine Care Center, and contribute to a more compassionate, responsible community.
We are deeply grateful for your support, which enables us to make a tangible difference in the lives of animals in Loreto. Together, we are taking meaningful steps towards creating a safe and nurturing Rescue Center for our stray dogs, and we look forward to sharing future milestones with you.
With sincere appreciation,
The Stray Paws Loreto A.C. Team
