FCCO has an equation to show what happens when feral cats multiply!
The mathematical calculation shown below is based on 1 unaltered cat and all her offspring having a litter of 4 each over a 10-year period. The result is a startling 1,398,101 cats.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the answer.
The adorable kitty pictured here was nervous about being at FCCO's clinic, but she has a wonderful caregiver, Richard, looking out for her. She is one of 12 cats who Richard has brought in to be spayed/neutered this summer, and he is not done yet! He traps the cats using humane traps on loan from FCCO, brings them to our clinic to be spayed/neutered, then returns them to his property where he'll continue to feed them - no longer worried about the number of cats growing exponentially.
Richard lives in a rural area and the cats took up residence in his barn. "There is room (for now) and I do not mind feeding and looking after them," he said. He understands the math so he remains committed to trapping each one for their turn at FCCO, and he is also very grateful that our services remain donation based.
Thank you for being part of the solution by supporting FCCO's spay/neuter services!
