FCCO Helps 125,000th Cat!

Blaze came to our clinic on December 21, 2022, with her 13 kittens. This special mama kitty is the 125,000th cat to receive FCCO's compassionate care! What an exciting way to wrap up the year!

Blaze lives in Damascus, Oregon. Her caregivers, Ben and Melissa, said she showed up on their property with two other cats. They put out food and let them shelter in their barn. Then Blaze, who was thought to be a boy initially, had five kittens.

It was a busy summer for Ben and Melissa's family so they thought they could wait to get Blaze spayed since she just had a litter. It didn't take long before they realized she was actually pregnant again.

They enlisted their sister, Niki, to take care of Blaze so that when the next litter was born the kittens could be tamed. Blaze had eight adorable kittens and allowed Niki and her family to spend lots of time socializing them.

While it was a wonderful experience, Niki told us, "I'm so thankful that you all are able to help us make sure this is the end to our kitten fun!"

FCCO was founded in 1995 in part by Ellie Shelburne, DVM. Commenting on today's milestone, Dr. Shelburne said, "FCCO has sure come a long way from the days when we were hauling our medical supplies in a little trailer behind a Honda civic to any veterinary hospital kind enough to lend us their space. Back then it was all about helping individual cats live better lives. Now it blows my mind how many cats have been helped. I am in awe of all the people who made this happen!"

After recovering from surgery, Blaze and her adult kittens will continue to live on Ben and Melissa's property. Her young kittens will all be going to forever homes; a happy and healthy Mew Year for Cupcake, Muffin, Grumpy, Goatee, Half-Face, Wee Wee, Smudge, and Runty.

Thank you for your support and being a part of this incredible milestone of 125,000 cats in our community helped!
