People with profound disabilities who cannot work are historically disenfranchised.  Your gift helps SPARC to address one of the gaping holes in the social safety net and address diversity, equity and inclusion. ¨People with profound disabilities who cannot work are frequently not counted and not served.¨The targeted SPARC population must be viewed through a social framework and civil or human rights lens.

SPARC works hard to serve the least served in our community, to provide essential social, eduational and create programs for the 1% of the disabiled population with profound disabilties who are not able to work.  We offer programs that give adults with profound disabilities a chance to enjoy a full and meaningful life.

The SPARC curriculum is rooted in therapeutic recreation principles that consist of continued education/leisure learning, skill building, exercise excursions, cooking, music, art, lectures, discussion group and much more!

During the month of February, we made Valentines cards and cookies; strawberry sugar scrubs and pot roast!  We welcomed guest speakers who worked for the Secret Service and the Marketing Director for a circus!  Club members discussed current events and sports; enjoyed zumba, therapeutic art and dancing.  We wrote letters to our legislators and convinced a community center to update their facility to be more ADA compliant!  As part of a music themed class, we listened to a violist, played music bingo, and made marzipan drums.

SPARC does not turn away anyone for lack of resources.  A year at SPARC costs $9,000, which is a huge cost savings as medicaid providers cost between $27,000 - $34,000 plus transporation!  Your donation ensures that through scholarships everyone who is best served by SPARC's alternative to the Medicaid model can attend.
