We spend nearly all of our revenue providing services to adults with disabilities in Virginia. That means we don’t have our own buildings or even long-term leases. Providing those services is made possible by organizations that give us space in their facilities for a year or more.
Without those organizations, we would have fewer resource for directly helping people because we would be paying for this space.
Our community partners have made this process successful for more than a decade until we achieved a perfect storm this summer. It’s not the perfect storm with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg on boats. This one is a single month in which we have to move our office and our facilities in Reston and Arlington. We also have our regular summer moves of other facilities in Fairfax and Reston.
The schedule may confuse you. We’ve had to write it more than once for everyone. We’re moving four of our five service delivery locations and our office--all within a couple of weeks. Two of the moves are temporary, but the other three, including our office, are permanent.
It’s our perfect storm of moving.
The great news is that we won’t miss providing any services. Our friends who have come to rely on us as a significant part of their lives will simply travel to different locations.
And we’re moving all of our things by ourselves. So let us know if you’re in Northern Virginia, and we’ll put you to work. But it would be easier if you could also make a donation this month.
We remain the best scroungers you will ever meet. But as we transition to these new locations, different expenses all arise at the same time.
SPARC now serves 51 adults with disabilities in our community.
We continue growing to help this underserved community by offering lifelong and vocational learning plus the ability to meet and interact with others. As we continue helping more people each year, we become the proof-of-concept that full community participation is available to anyone regardless of a physical or intellectual condition.
We need financial help from you now to meet these extraordinary and unique expenses. Our plans for the remainder of 2018 and 2019 should put us on solid financial footing. By helping now, you ensure that we continue thriving to help the 51 families in our community and expand to help more in the future.
