The training of the GROW Educare trainers is now complete. We had hoped to have undertaken this a couple of months ago, however, there was an unforeseen delay.
The trainers have learned not only how to operate the Lifeplayer MP3, but also how to create and load content and to use it as a teaching tool. The trainers, will in turn, be conducting on-site training sessions of pre-school teachers in under-resourced Cape Town early learning centers. Most of the teachers themselves are not formally trained and our partner, GROW, helps them not only build skills as a teacher, but also trains in learner observation skills, parent management, finances, adminstration and record keeping.
The pre-loaded content was produced by local musicologists from Wriggle and Rhyme. There are 24 pedagodically created songs, lesson, stories, games and dance exercises aimed at two to five-year-olds. All the content is upbeat and set to music, so children develop fine and gross motor skills as they learn. Teachers will create observation logs of the children as they respond to the segments initially and over time to help evaluate the impact.
We apologize that this update is so short. However, in our next update, we'll be able to share stories, photos and even video of the children in the SoundStart initiative.
