Over the summer, major power plants in the Luzon area, Philippines have undergone preventive maintenance leaving the whole country in tight electric power supply conditions. Insufficient operations of such power plants lead to power outages and thin supply of electricity. This results to higher charges in the wholesale electricity spot market. In the month of June 2021, an increase of 1.9468 per kilowatt hour was implemented.
Foundation University is blessed enough to be in operations despite the increase in power rates because of the active operations of its own existing solar panels which can only accommodate 40% of the total energy consumption of the institution. However, it still needs to procure more panels to achieve 100% solar dependence.
As a recognized national champion for the most eco-friendly institution, it has always been the university's goal to reduce its carbon footprint. It hopes to generate more funding through the GlobalGiving program to be able to achieve the goal despite the global pandemic.
