In our previous update, we noted that we would be able to implement this Lifeplayer intiative to benefit pastoral women in Kenya formally in May/June. A delay was caused by port congestion in Singapore and the Lifeplayer units arrived too late to make the planned March distributions.
As I noted in the previous update, I was able to visit Marsabit and lay the groundwork for the launch, in addition to meeting again with womens’ groups about their information needs and wants. We are implementing this project in collaboration with HODI, also a GlobalGiving organization.
And now the rains have fallen, which is great on one hand because the area has been experiencing a prolonged drought and was in urgent need of water for livestock and crops. However, the rains turned to floods and hundreds of families in Marsabit County have been displaced and food shortages are serious. Entire communities lost everything in flash floods.
The result is that this means a further delay. Lifeline Energy doesn’t just have to coordinate the launch of this initiative, but the launch of three other Lifeplayer projects in Kenya, which are also impacted. The formal launch will now take place in July. July is a dry month. We truly do not anticipate any other delays.
We sincerely apologise, however, we will provide much more detail in our next update.
