Dear Friends-
We are happy to announce that the first phase of a solar lighting system has been installed at the Rubaare Education Foundation high school in southwestern Uganda. With your donations, as well as the generous support of the Unitarian Church of Summit New Jersey, we hired Village Energy, a Ugandan-owned solar company, to install lighting in the main chapel, some classrooms and in the girls’ and boys’ dormitories.
So far, Henry Twinemasiko, REF Schools Director, is extremely pleased with the system saying, “The solar system is working really well, the students are very happy with the lights.”
Now, over 400 students have access to lighting in their dorms and for studying in the evenings. We are very excited about this progress and cannot wait to expand the system to provide more students with clean, renewable lighting.
Donate now to help us bring lighting and power to more students
In Phase II of the program, we will bring lighting to the rest of the REF main campus, providing power to the rest of the classrooms, staff offices and dining hall/kitchen. Once we have completed the main campus, we will focus on the Rubaare Junior Foundation School, a primary school just down the road.
The first phase of our project was completed with $10,000 – please help us raise another $10,000 so that all the students and staff can benefit from this clean energy program. Wednesday, October 15th is a Global Giving Matching Day, and Global Giving will match up to 30% of your donation.
Thanks again for all of your wonderful support. We will report back very soon on our progress in Rubaare.
Warmest regards,
Sylvia and Kim
