We are pleased to report that the shipment of solar lanterns to Sri Lanka arrived safely. They are now being distributed by our partner, World Vision Lanka (WVL) to grade schools in the Mannar District in the Northern Province. It is always satisfying to see the looks of joy and appreciation on the faces of these young recipients. They know that they will now have light for their studies even after the sun goes down. As they see it, the sun is always there for them when they need it.
We are so grateful to WVL for making this happen. The Solar Empowerment Initiative's role is to raise the funds to purchase and ship the lanterns to Sri Lanka. Generous donors such as yourselves make this possible. WVL then does the heavy lifting. They identify recipients, primarily children in grade schools in poor areas of Sri Lanka. They then makes the necessary contacts, transport the lanterns there, and distribute them. We are particularly grateful to WVL's Michelle Croos, who enjoys giving out the lanterns just as much as the children enjoy receiving them.
Of the 1000 lanterns received, all but about 50 have been distributed. Our goal is for the next shipment to be 2000. The need is unending
