On 15 July 2011, 150 solar lamps were handed over to poor meritorious students of seven Government schools and one school run by Baikunthapur Tarun Sanga (BTS) at a ceremony on Maipith Island in Sundarbans. Present were students and teachers of the schools, representatives of ASED, ONergy, BTS and the local government. Parents of some of the students also attended the ceremony. The students, who were given the solar lamps, were chosen by the school authorities on the basis of academic merit and economic need. The staff of BTS visited the homes of these students for verification. Seven sets of twin LED solar tube lights were donated to seven schools where there are residential students or special coaching so that students can study properly after dark.
