The project Solar Home Lighting to poor villagers in Rajasthan is progressing well with donations raised through the Global Giving. We on behalf of the members of SED and on beneficiaries’ behalf give our sincere thanks to all of you who are supporting our work and helping poor rural people to have light in their homes and make their living better.
With the funds received, we have already purchased 50 solar lighting systems from Kalinga Renewable Energy Manufacturers (KARMA) Pvt. Ltd. The system has Solar Panel, A battery, converter, 2 LED bulbs of 5 W and mobile phone charging facility.
Till date 42 systems are installed at the homes of poor people in villages of Digod, Kasampura, Parlia, Nayagaon and Mundla of Kota district in Rajasthan. They are installed free of cost and collection of $ 5 per month from each beneficiaries has been started. So far we have collected $ 250 only, as people are poor and crops are destroyed due to hail storm and sowing season started. During June and July we held training programmes for 20 youths for providing training in repair and maintenance of these solar system in these villages. Presently people are having 7 to 10 hours light daily depending upon the number of bulbs used at a time.
The SED through its GVK developed demonstration centre to step up our efforts to reach as many villagers as possible. We have identified 100 more beneficiaries from 5 villages, that we can stall solar systems. As funds are exhausted we are unable to cater the demand from new beneficiaries and sought new donations from all of you.
The SED staff and all the beneficiaries say thank you very much for your support and help in enlighten life of poor women & children in this desert region.
