Soap making for Health and income in rural school

By Jawanghe Joseph | Project Leader

We are deeply grateful for your continued support and belief in our mission to empower vulnerable children and communities through practical skills development and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

Through this project, school children are being trained in both liquid and solid soap production using affordable and locally available materials. The initiative is not only equipping learners with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, but also promoting better hygiene practices within schools and surrounding communities.

The students actively participate in producing soap for handwashing at school, helping to improve sanitation and reduce hygiene-related illnesses. In addition, excess soap produced is sold to nearby communities, creating a small but meaningful source of income. The funds generated are being directed toward supporting vulnerable children with school supplies, scholastic materials, and school fees.

We are also excited to share that, with additional support from generous members and well-wishers outside the GlobalGiving campaign, we have successfully purchased essential tools and materials for both liquid and solid soap production. This milestone has greatly strengthened the project and expanded our capacity to train more students practically and effectively.

The newly acquired equipment is enabling learners to gain hands-on experience in:

  • Liquid soap production
  • Solid/bar soap making
  • Packaging and branding skills
  • Basic entrepreneurship and business management
  • Teamwork and leadership development

This initiative is gradually building a sustainable, student-led support system where young people become active participants in solving challenges within their schools and communities.

Impact So Far

  • Improved handwashing and hygiene practices in schools
  • Increased practical vocational skills among students
  • Creation of small income-generating opportunities
  • Greater confidence and entrepreneurship among learners
  • Enhanced community interest in locally made hygiene products

As we move forward, our goal is to expand training opportunities, increase production capacity, and support more vulnerable children through this self-sustaining model.

Your support continues to create real and lasting change in the lives of young people in Uganda. Thank you for walking this journey with us and for helping us empower the next generation with skills, dignity, and hope.
