“Working as a cook at Sky’s Limit school is the most fulfilling job I have had. I’m always looking forward to preparing meals for the children at Sky is the limit school because I know and understand what most of the children’s families are going through in terms of putting a meal on the table. Knowing that there are always children that are waiting and will appreciate the food I cook makes my heart melt, the joy, smiles, eagerness that you, our sponsors, put on these children’s face cannot be explained. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you our dear sponsors, you not only make a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged children, but also for me and my fellow workmates. Thank you so much and may God bless you”.

Ms. Kabasinguzi Viola, cook at Sky is the Limit Nursery and Primary school.

The children’s performance in studies, games and cocurricular activities was a success during 2023. We noticed a gradual improvement in all learning fields during the year. We strongly believe that it’s the result of the nutritious meals served at school that have boosted the children’s brain function/ performance. The beneficiaries were also able to participate in Municipality’s Ball Games’ tournament and the school merged as the 3rd out of the 22 participants.

The children have continued to enjoy the meals served at school; this is evidenced by the joy seen on children’s face during mealtime.

We have recorded a gain in weight and height in most children that were underweight at the beginning of the school year. We strongly believe that it is because of the meals served at school given the fact that most of the beneficiaries do not have the opportunity of having more than one meal at home. Most of the children had lost weight, had difficulties in concentrating in class and did not have the energy in participating in physical games and sports.

The number of school attendance has improved greatly for the beneficiaries.

Employment: it’s not only the cooks but the teaching staff, driver, gate man among others that earn a living as result of the school meals program at Sky is the Limit school which in turn improves the lives of the community.

We have started cooking lessons at Sky is the Limit school. Sometimes children take part in preparing their meals which is an added advantage to the children. Thanks to the Ecologia food program, we can conduct these lessons.

The project achieved its aims and targets as the pupils have largely continued having a balanced diet which has in turn led to the expected results as mentioned above. However with the current inflation in Uganda and worldwide, food prices have escalated which in turn affected our food budget. For example, we are unable to provide food supplements like milk, fruits among others to the sickly children. We are also unable to provide a variation in the foods served thus serve mainly posho, beans and Groundnuts, unlike the previous years when we served a variety of food.

To ensure sustainability of Sky is the limit we propose the following steps:

The launch of Mama Rose organic farm is a big step towards sustainability of school meals at Sky is the limit school. We strongly believe that the farm will supply food to the school.

The project needs modern and efficient methods of preparing food to cut on the current high energy costs.  For example, modern eco stoves. We plan to construct modern eco stoves and cooking equipment to reduce on the energy costs and environmental emissions.

The project needs a new efficient kitchen with efficient utensils which we can hire out on weekends and holidays as away of earning money for the school meals programme.

We believe that by cutting on the energy expenses together with the food supply from Mama Rose Organic Farm and renting out a Morden kitchen and dining hall, will make the project sustainable.

We want to extend our deep gratitude to Ecologia Youth Trust and all our donors who support the school meals programme at Sky Is The Limit.

Thank you!
