Henrietta Rose was devoted to Sky Is The Limit Children’s Centre, located in Fort Portal, Western Uganda. She passed away on 24th June, 2018.
Having been a VSO volunteer in Uganda, Henrietta always had an affinity with the country and its people. She first met the founder of the school, Rose Mugenyi, and her brother, Richard Tooro, in 2000. They became her dear friends and hosted Henrietta and her family almost every year.
In memory of Henrietta Rose, we have set up a Memorial Fund for Sky Is The Limit
Henrietta served as a valued and active member on the board of Ecologia Youth Trust for 13 years. Inspired by her passion for Sky Is The Limit, Ecologia has supported the centre since 2004. With Henrietta’s help we have raised thousands of pounds for Sky Is The Limit, to buy piglets and fruit trees for the farm, sink a well for fresh water, build a toilet block (in an innovative fund-raising venture, Henrietta sold loo rolls by the dozen!), and buy classroom furniture and a new truck to transport the children to school.
The Chosen Few Tailoring School to train Sky Is The Limit graduates in valuable life skills, funded through our GlobalGiving Campaign, is now thriving. We were able to buy 5 new sewing machines and several rolls of stock materials to enable the tailors to make uniforms for local schools and hotels. The profits help to pay for food for school meals and equipment for the farm. Connie Rose, taken in by Rose at age 4, and the first Tailoring School manager, is still there, now manager of the whole team.
Ecologia is always proud to play a part in this effort, and to witness the extraordinary results – not least of which included seeing children who had to walk 12 miles to school on an empty stomach becoming bright and energetic, stronger and healthier, after eating a daily nutritious school meal, provided with our help.
The Memorial Fund for Sky Is The Limit.
We aim to rebuild two classrooms destroyed by termites last year into a permanent brick structure that will stand the test of time. This will be a testament to Henrietta’s love and dedication to this small but important school in Uganda.
We aim to raise £25,000 for the school and invite you to contribute in any way you can, to keep the momentum of support for Sky Is The Limit going in her memory.
