MANKOSI SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTER REPORT FROM JULY TO SEPTEMBER 2021
INTRODUCTION
The Mankosi community is in rural areas of South Africa. SDC deals with youth unemployment and poverty, it also empowering youth to take care of themselves. It will offer individuals the right program that provides them with insight in the possibility of job opportunities and a sustainable income. This way the Mankosi youth will provide for themselves and gain confidence in the community.
My name is Khanyisa , one of the SDC managers. This document is intended to give an update on what has been done so far.
THE SEWING PROJECT
The sewing project is a powerful learning space to bring experts, teachers, and learners together so that they create sustainable income. Nosphelele and Nolethu are our trained seamstress of the Skills Development Centre. They already learned so many techniques including how to work with electric sewing machine and overlocker. The sewing project is on hold for now as we are waiting for the SDC building to be finished. The ladies are now busy sewing trousers to sell them at Mdumbi bckpackers. The sewing machines are in the house of Khanyisa, one of the SDC managers, as we are waiting for our building to be finished. We bought another sewing machine for the ladies. The ladies finished 10 trousers in 3 days because of the machine we bought. It made things easier for them because each of them is using her own machine, they are not depending on one machine. They also made some bags.
ADULT EDUCATION TRAINING
We opened the school on the 26th of July 2021 for our second term. They prepare for their trial exams which was going to be written in the first week of September 2021. Since we opened the school for second term, the number of students dropped down to ten. We only have six students who wrote trial examinations. The teachers are busy with moderations and students’ files. Now we are just waiting for the date of writing final examinations.
SDC Building
Our new SDC building looks beautiful. The roof is on and the walls are all plastered on the inside and outside. We also placed all the doors and windows and the rooms are very nice and bright. We are bus fundraising and soon we will put the first coat of color on the walls.
Qolweni Agriculture Project
The Qolweni farmers managed to put a beautiful; fence round the garden. They used wood from the forest as poles and bought wire fence from the shop. They fenced 500sqm of their land so far. They started tuning the virgin land into fertile land to plant vegetables in the summer season.
CONCLUSION
Because the COVID-19 is still present in our country and our building is not finished yet, some our projects are on hold. Despite everything I would like to thank our donors for helping us in this hard time with this disease that has blocked our countries.
Yours Faithfully
Khanyisa
