Dear Friends, In May we were able to take a trip to the technical university in Delft Netherlands. Here they are researching making bricks that do not have to be burnt in a fire. Instead, the bricks are made with soil and cow manure and pressed in a special machine. The result is bricks that are twice as strong as fire bricks, but much better for the environment. These special bricks are being made in Uganda by a small social enterprise called Cool Bricks. Cool Bricks has visited the Suubi center in central Uganda. They have presented us with a design for staff homes. Each house has two bedrooms, a living room, and a large front porch. We would like to have Cool Bricks build 6 staff houses over time (as the funds become available). They are working on a large Safari Lodge hotel project. They should have time to build our first house in January 2025. And if the funds are available, we will have them build more homes. Each house costs 9300 euros (approx. 9500 USD). Right now, our staff rent one room agricultural worker cottages. These are one-room concrete boxes. They are moldy and damp. Unfortunately, they are the only thing available in the area. We never wished for the staff to remain in these conditions long-term. We dream of moving them as soon as possible. Naturally, we thank you for any gift you give to our staff homes. Thank you!
