Gender based violence affects many women and girls in Nigeria, leaving survivors with injuries, trauma, and little support. This project will organize a community program in Abuja during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. The event will provide health checks, counseling sessions, and public education on how to report abuse and seek help. Women facing violence will also receive basic support items and information on available protection services.
Violence against women remains widespread across the world. According to the United Nations, about one in three women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. In Nigeria many survivors remain silent due to fear, stigma, and lack of support services. Without assistance many victims continue to suffer abuse and long term health and emotional harm.
The project will organize a community program in Abuja during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. Health workers and counselors will provide support for survivors and share information on reporting abuse and seeking protection. Participants will receive counseling guidance, support items, and referral information for services that help women facing violence.
Public education and survivor support can help reduce silence around gender based violence. More women will learn where to seek help and how to report abuse safely. Community discussions during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence can also encourage families and local leaders to protect women and support survivors.
