Learning outdoors for children of the favelas

As summer approaches, the Julio Otoni Community Center is buzzing with excitement as we prepare to relaunch our much-loved summer program for the children of our community. This year, the program will once again feature engaging English classes, interactive games, and sports activities designed to inspire learning, creativity, and teamwork. Thanks to your support, we can provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can grow, explore, and enjoy their summer break in meaningful ways. These programs not only equip them with valuable skills but also offer opportunities for fun, friendship, and discovery right here in the heart of the Julio Otoni favela.

This month, we embraced the sunny weather and took the children on an adventure to Paquetá Island. Together, we explored the island’s picturesque landscapes, played games in its charming parks, and splashed in the warm waters at the beach. For many of the kids, it was a rare chance to escape their everyday routines and connect with nature, creating joyful memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
