The Simon Community Fact File outlines the homeless situation in Ireland. It provides the most recent up to date figures of the homeless situation in Ireland.
The Spokesperson for the Simon Community of Ireland, Niamh Randall gives her opinion on the crisis of the homeless situation we have at the moment.
This fact file provides a story of one of our client users, who has been involved with the Simon Community of Ireland.
A brief synopsis;
Simon Community Fact-File
- Rents up 32.3% nationally while the number of properties available decreases by 77% since 2012.
- A total of over 13,000 social housing units were delivered in 2015 with only 28 house actually being built.
- The number of new private residential properties completed in 2015 was 12,666 compared to 93,419 houses in 2006.
- 70% of mortgages in arrears are in arrears for more than 90 days.
- The number of people in emergency accommodation has grown to almost 6,000 people.

Simon Annual Report

The Simon Annual report outlines the key moments from the past year. In the report, it displays the main highlights from the local Simon Communities. It provides a snapshot of the services, as it consists a breakdown of statistics where people are supported in Housing all around the country. How many people accessed Emergency accommodation. How many people accessed specialist treatment and support services. How many people accessed prevention and early intervention services. How many people accessed Education, Training and Employment services. And how many Volunteers supported their local Simon Community throughout the year.
The Simon Community of Ireland's Policy, Research and Communications are highlighted in the report, providing information about Simon Week and their policy submissions.
Regarding the area of best practice and training, this outlines information on Simon working with media training Working and peer literacy training programme while describing the events of Simon Voice.
To finish with, the report highlights the national fundraising success along with the financial overview.

Simon Voices

Simon Voices is an Awareness Newsletter outlining the news and information from the Simon Community of Ireland.
Simon Voices gives the reader an update of the work the Simon Community of Ireland are involved in.
Dublin Client Action Group organised another Speakout on May 20th 2015. This time the topic was on addiction and mental health. Speakout is an opportunity for clients to communicate with and influence people and organisations who make decisions that affect a client’s life.
There was a reasonable turnout from clients and the guest speakers were from Simon Communities in-house services along with some external organisations like LifeRing a support group to help people live free from addictions and the
Samaritans. Clients had an opportunity to interact on one to one basis with different support teams in a very relaxed way and hence benefited by gathering required information.
