Building Brighter Futures for Teenage Mothers

Young Women Turn Learning into Leadership

During this reporting period, Lidar Community Foundation strengthened the knowledge, confidence and leadership of adolescent girls and young women through four structured empowerment workshops. The learning was then put into practice when participants helped welcome and engage with funders and programme partners during a project visit on 11 August 2026.

Activities and Results

  • 10 April: Gender-Based Violence, Rights and Access to Services - 31 participants.
  • 9 May: Healthy Relationships, Consent and Digital Safety - 31 participants.
  • 20 June: Healthy Relationships and Positive Decision-Making - 31 participants.
  • 3 July: Women's Leadership, Economic Empowerment and SRHR Advocacy - 31 participants.

Together, these sessions generated 124 workshop attendances. Through practical discussion, peer learning and guided reflection, participants strengthened their understanding of personal rights, safer relationships, informed decision-making, digital safety, sexual and reproductive health and rights, leadership and pathways towards economic independence.

A Proud Moment: Hosting Project Funders

On 11 August, the young women successfully helped host a visiting delegation of funders and Y+ Global programme representatives at the Lidar Centre. They welcomed guests, participated confidently in the programme and shared their experiences and aspirations. The visit, attended by 31 registered participants and stakeholders, showed that the young women are not only beneficiaries: they are increasingly visible leaders and advocates with ownership of the project.

Funding Update and Challenges

No donations were received through GlobalGiving during this reporting period. Activities continued through available project and partner-supported resources. Limited funding nevertheless affects the number of young women we can reach, the frequency of follow-up mentoring and our ability to expand practical economic-empowerment opportunities.

Next Steps

Lidar will continue the remaining empowerment sessions, strengthen peer leadership and mentoring, and connect SRHR knowledge with practical economic empowerment and school retention. We will also continue mobilising support so more teenage mothers and young women can participate safely and consistently.

Your support can help these young women move from knowledge to confidence, leadership and a more secure future.
