Expanding Access & Building Capacity

Over this past quarter, Lidar Community Foundation has focused on two priorities: supporting young mothers to access life-changing youth services and strengthening our organizational capacity to serve them better.

Access to Youth-Friendly Services
We supported 60 young mothers to begin accessing the BeFree Campus, a youth-friendly hub that combines health, empowerment, and safe space services. Already, 35 mothers have secured full membership cards, giving them continuous access to:

  • Health services: HIV testing and counselling, SRHR information, contraceptives, and referrals for GBV, TB, and other health concerns.
  • Life skills & empowerment programs: parenting skills, personal development, and peer support groups tailored to young mothers.
  • Education & employment linkages: career readiness workshops and connections to empowerment initiatives.
  • Safe spaces & psychosocial support: mentorship from peers, professional counselling, and community belonging.

For our women, BeFree is more than a card — it is a door to dignity, knowledge, and opportunity.

Story of Change
One of our participants, Bella, joined Lidar as a young mother with limited options. Through our guidance she secured BeFree membership, where she accessed parenting programs and counselling. Today, she has not only grown in confidence but also helps other mothers register, serving as a peer leader and role model. Her journey shows how access to the right services can spark leadership and inspire others to follow.

Strengthening Our Capacity
To improve support for our beneficiaries, we:

  • Published our new website (www.lidarfoundation.org) and launched social media pages.
  • Hired a digital marketer to strengthen communications.
  • Engaged an international consultant from Kenya to build stronger internal systems.
  • Benefited from multiple capacity-building partnerships: the SAP Social Sabbatical Award through Pyxera Global, financial sustainability coaching from Humentum, and resource mobilization support from SGS Consulting in South Africa.
