Help a Young Mother Obtain a Driver's License

By Serley Eises | Project Leader

GlobalGiving Microproject Report
Title: Help a Young Mother Obtain a Driver’s License
Parent Project: Shelter & Skills for Young Mothers in Namibia

Date: 15 May 2025

Over the past few months, Lidar Community Foundation has been actively supporting young mothers in Namibia with practical, life-changing skills, most notably, access to driving lessons. This micro project, launched in August 2024, has already helped 30 young mothers prepare for their learner’s licenses, with 24 of them successfully passing the written test. Beyond this milestone, we are proud to share that two young mothers, including “Dolly”, have now earned their full driver’s licenses.

Dolly’s story is one of quiet strength and unwavering hope. A 20-year-old mother of two, Dolly lives with her grandmother and ten other relatives in Windhoek, all of whom face economic hardship. Having left school early due to pregnancy, she faced years of financial instability. But everything began to change when she joined the Lidar Community Foundation. With support from our team and our friends and partners. Dolly studied hard, obtained her learner’s license, and recently completed her practical driving lessons — earning her license this quarter.

For Dolly, this is more than a document — it’s a step toward independence and a better-paying job. “I want to give my children a life I never had. Getting my driver’s license gave me hope that I’m on the right path,” she shared. Like many of the women we work with, Dolly’s dream is simple yet powerful: to provide for her children and support the grandmother who never gave up on her.

Each success like Dolly’s is a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and dependence. These outcomes have only been possible through the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you for helping us drive change — one mother at a time. (Note: Copies of driver’s licenses are available and can be submitted upon request.)
