Growing climate change has made it more difficult for women in Nepal, increasing the burden of daily activities such as collecting fuel and water, as well as increasing their exposure to natural disasters. Rural women are especially vulnerable due to existing gender inequality and their direct dependence on agriculture, farming, and forests for their livelihood, as well as their lack of access to resources and finance during times of crisis.
Climate risks have created a chain of challenges in women's and girls' lives, thus affecting many aspects such as livelihood opportunities, access and control over land and other resources, health, education, safety, income, legal rights, participation, mobility, political and professional representation, etc.
This project targets 50-60 rural women, specifically those in the Bardiya District of Nepal, who are particularly susceptible to yearly climate disasters. The primary purpose of the project, "She Leads, Climate Heals" is to address the intersection of climate change and gender inequality, with a particular emphasis on empowering vulnerable rural women.
The expected long-term impact of this project is to empower women and girls equipped with the tools and resources necessary to safeguard themselves and their families from climate disasters. With the help of this project, they can become more resilient and better equipped to face the consequences of climate change. Besides, they will work as a change agent for a gender-equal society, having a voice and economic freedom.
