At the end of August 2015, IDH organised the 18th ExpoVida where more than 27,000 students were able to visit the central theme called “all attentive towards gender violence”.
In Bolivia, Cochabamba is the region with the highest rate of “feminicidios”. Since the beginning of 2015, 23 women were killed at the hands of their husband or partner.
The beginning of the exhibition exposed portraits of famous women who suffered gender violence in their lives, as well as portraits of women whose stories are not usually covered by the media. However, it is important to remind ourselves that gender violence not only refers to violence against women. Homophobia is also a form of gender violence.
The students could inform themselves on sexual diversity. For many of them, this was an opportunity to go beyond the prejudice fuelled by our machist society.
