Empowering 280 Women for Employment

Dear Friends,

With immense pleasure I want to share that Setu has entered Rajasthan. A new skill centre at Jaipur has been launched on 27^th September 2017. Mr Manu Gautam Site Head Metlife Gosc, Mahindra SEZ, Jaipur inaugurated the Setu Multi Skill Centr along with Pankaj Badola, Neetu Kumari, Anurag Jhoda. Also present on the occasion was Setu team comprising of Chief trustee Ravi Kaul, Jyotsna Srivastava, Program Director Geet Anjali, Vocational Skill Head, Malvika Achwaan Centre Head Metlife Centre Noida along with Dimple Vohra, Nashreena Ali, Ankita Rawat, Renu Verma, Mukesh Jha, Aditi Sharma Centre Head Jaipur, Aditya and Neetu.

Another milestone during this quarter was a tie up with Pear Academy. Setu and Pearl Academy have jointly launched a course to empower un-served women with Basic Fashion Design Skills so as to create Employability/Self-Employment at an event in Noida. Mr. Sanjay Lal, Additional Commissioner Income Tax was the Chief Guest at the event, also present were the senior management team members from Pearl academy and Setu along with distinguished Guest, Students of Setu and Pearl Academy.

During the Quarter 488 students were certified across all our Centres at various convocations and the break-up is as follows: 242 IT and Tally, 9 in Health Care, 18 in Hospitality, 27 in Beauty and Wellness and 192 in Tailoring.

Convocation and Certification : During this quarter 488 Students were certified at different convocation ceremonies

Volunteers at Skill centre : A series of guest lectures by our volunteers being conducted across all Skill centres. We are thankful to all the employees from Cognizant, Metlife and Pricewaterhouse Coopers who have given their valuable time in improving the knowledge of the beneficiaries.

Exposure visit of Skill student : Students from retail management course visited Hypercity, Logix Mall where Mr. Jaggi, Marketing Team Member, Hypercity interacted with the students and provided inputs on various kinds of displays, store organisation as well as about rules & regulations for employees. He also described “How a retail outlet work and different ways of arranging items in shelfs”.

Success stories

Self Help group : Students are engaged in income generating activity. Earlier they had produced rakhi, floating diya, magnets, charan painting. Now in this quarter they have created fridge magnets, paper bags, Gel diya. These products will be sold at Diwali stalls. After selling of these products students will be paid according to their contribution in creating these items.

Individuals whose change their lives Meet Sulbha :   Sulbha is 12th pass and currently pursuing graduation. She always wanted to become independent and help her family for betterment. So, she wanted to do a job and earn for being independent as well as for improvement of her family’s condition. But she wasn’t available to find a job after completing 12th. Then, she came to know about the SteP Program and its benefits for the underprivileged youths through our mobilization. She enrolled herself for smile course to fulfill her basic requirements of skills which is important for finding a good job. After successful completion of this course she grab job of Teacher at Morning Star public School with salary of Rs 6000 per month.

Her father is doing job at a private company. Her family’s annual income is Rs. 100,000/- which is insufficient to fulfill the basic need of a family of 6 members. It was hard for her father to take care of her family and also giving her money for higher education. Her mother is a homemaker and father is the only bread earner. She wants to support her father. So she joined this course.

Initially she was very weak girl but always try to learn new things to improve her skills. After joining this course she learned to type with speed of 20 wpm. In addition she also got knowledge of personality development which helps her to improve her personality.

Dear Friends,

At the Setu skill centres during the last quarter we enrolled around 385 students across all centres, 357 students were certified and 141 students placed. The focus being Women empowerment. Apart from the normal routine of enrolment, examination certification and placements may other activities were conducted at the skill centres.
International Yoga day was celebrated at all the Skill centers with over whelming participation from the students. The Women students came out in large numbers to make the event a success.

Teej a festival for Women was celebrated with fun and fare at the Setu Skill Centre. A mehndi competition was organised at the Behrampur Skill Centre at Ghaziabad.At the Sadarpur Centre in Noida we had multiple activities
- A rakhi making competition followed by a Fashion show by the specially abled students
- Rangoli Competition, Dance competition, Mehndi competition followed by a fashion show by the students of the skill centre

Guest lectures at Skill centers: Many guest lectures including personality development workshops and mock interview sessions were organised across the Setu skill centres for students of IT, Health care, Tailoring and Beauty & Wellness

Guest Lecture was held for the Students of the High end Tailoring course at Sadarpur by the Special Trainer deputed by Creatnet.
The beauty and wellness students at Sadarpur Centre went thru a Guest lecture by Meenakshi Mittal on Hair Styling and Facial skills. Guest Lecture was held for the Berhampur Skill centre Students. A special Guest lecture was conducted for the Healthcare students at the Berhampur Centre along with a lecture for the IT students along with a Guest lecture on Personality Development and Grooming was organized for IT and GDA course. The sessions also provided student knowledge about the Jobs available in the market.
Employees from MetLife GOSC.... conducted Mock interview for Setu Students. Students were also given input of Interview Handling skills. The team was lead by Mr. Arvind Jena Vice President Metlife.
We thank all our volunteers for their over whelming support and commitment towards the project.
Convocation During the quarter 431 students were certified at the Skill Centres of Setu.

176 students who completed their Skill course at Setu were handed over certificates at a convocation ceremony held on 22/08/2017

- Seventy Nine students were handed over Low- end Tailoring certificates
- Eighty students who completed Basic IT and English Speaking course were handed over certificates by Swati Coomar, Niharika , Nidhi and Sonam Mehra from MetLife GOSC.
- Seventeen students who completed the Industrial Tailoring Course and were handed over Certificates by Garima Bhat and Ronita Chouduri from Creatnet Services Ltd

At the convocation held at the Setu Skill Centre 158 students who had completed the Tailoring, IT, Hospitality and Beauty course were handed over their certificates by Mr Sumit Joshi Director Technology and Mr Rahul Aggarwal Associate Director Banking at Fidelity International . Also present on the occasion were Ms Venu and Siddharth CSR representatives from FI and the Management team at Setu. The students shared their experience at Setu with the esteemed representatives.

The Honorable High Commissioner of Australia in India Ms. Harinder Sidhu presented certificates to 97 students who completed their skill course in IT, Tailoring and Health Care at a convocation Ceremony held today. Also present on the occasion was Ms Pallavi Nayek Direct Aid Program Administrator along with all the management team at SETU. The Honorable High Commissioner also interacted with the students at the centre.

Forty Students of the STeP Course were presented certificates by Sanjina Wali Trustee Setu, The convocation was followed by a get-together of the students.

Exposure Visit: Mock interviews were session for Skill students from the Setu Multi Skill Centre Sadarpur Colony Sector 45 Noida 201301 were conducted during an orientation visit to MetLife GOSC.... A great Learning Experience for all the Students. Students from IT and Retail course visited Hypercity, Logix Mall for practical learning experience.
