Service Hours for Early Intervention Program

At three and a half years old, Le-Le should have been running happily and exploring the world. However, seizures shortly after birth caused his condition to deteriorate significantly. He developed low muscle tone throughout his body and, most of the time, could only lie down, losing the ability to move independently. As his condition progressed, his cognitive and comprehension abilities also gradually declined, leaving him completely dependent on his parents for daily care.

Although the rehabilitation journey has been full of uncertainty, his family has never given up. They have actively pursued multiple genetic tests in hopes of identifying the cause of his condition. With the support of Eden Foundation’s social worker, Le-Le was also enrolled in an early intervention center to begin learning. In the early stages, he frequently experienced seizures triggered by changes in the weather or poor physical condition. The side effects of his medication often left him drowsy, and watching him struggle to stay awake while missing valuable learning opportunities was heartbreaking for both his teachers and parents. Fortunately, after several months of adjustment, he gradually adapted to the group learning environment.

Due to his physical and verbal limitations, Le-Le is unable to express his needs. However, after he began using an eye-gaze communication device, his early intervention teachers were delighted to discover that he could interact with a computer screen using only his eye movements to participate in learning activities. This demonstrated that his cognitive abilities were improving little by little. Seeing these milestones has brought great comfort and gratitude to his parents. With consistent support and diverse learning opportunities provided through early intervention services, Le-Le is continuing to grow, taking one step at a time, at his own pace.
