Dear Generous Donor,
Namaskar and a warm greeting from Nepal!
With your kind support through the project loved and donated by you 'Send a Girl to High School with a Bicycle Gift' Janaki Women Awareness Society (www.jwas.org.np) has reached to 100 poor high school girls in southern Nepal. They are enjoying their commute for the school every day with the bicycle provided by you. And it is a worth watching seen at the school gate when number of school girls with bags in their backs and carrying cheerful faces enters the school at 10:00 O'clock in the morning everyday! We believe if you see and feel it from the close you will feel the difference!
In this quarterly report, this time I have tried to share you the quick impacts of our last lot of bicycle distribution events held on 24th December, 2016 where 20 bicycles were distributed to high school girls of Baidhyanath Devnarayn Public Lions Higher Secondary School, Tulshyahi Dhanusha.
As per the school record of last three months from January 20 high school girls who got a bicycle each has significantly increased their school attendance during the period. Principal Mr. Barbie said 'girls who were comparatively weak in studies are also improving day by day. They have become rarely late for the school which was a common thing before the bicycle distribution as they commuted more than 5 KM every day for the schools. Bicycles have really helped in higher secondary education of these girls.
One of the bicycle recipient girls Manisha, 10th grader from the school said; ''Before I got bicycle I remained absent in the school many days every month since it was far from home and I always used to get late doing household chores at home. As I was late every day my friends left me alone and I didn't feel like going to the school. But now with the bicycle things have changed. Finishing all the household chores everyday still I get school on time. I have never been late and absent now. Bicycle has become a great help for me.' Her father Bhogendra said 'It was not up to me to buy a bicycle for my daughter. I work in daily wages and my earning is just enough for our living. Now while going school also she can easily help us in household chores and her mother and I can go for the work every day'
When we started this project last year we were not sure whether we'll be able to reach to the targeted number of school girls. But with the overwhelming support the project is getting from the generous donors like you and your good words to your circles, it seems we are not so far from the goal now.
We heartily thank all the donors and really appreciate and value your every donation for the cause - increasing access of girls in the high schools and ending child marriage. We invite you to Nepal, the country of Mount Everest and encourage feeling closely in person the impacts made by your donation and see the smiling school girls coming to the school in the bicycle provided by you and the changes it has brought in their life. We would be more than happy to coordinate and arrange your visits to the recipient school girls, schools and her family.
Together with you we have done a lot – but we can do so much more! We can increase more girls in the high schools and end child marriage once and for all.
Please feel free to contact me for more details.
Thank you.
