Dear Pakistan Project Supporters,

We are delighted to share an update with you on how your investment in girls’ education is making an impact in Pakistan. Please take a moment to read Ayesha’s story of persistence.

Ayesha is 9 years old and studying in class 7th. When the government closed Ayesha’s local school, she and her friends, Muqadas and Naila, decided they would continue their primary education by studying at home. Although Ayesha finished primary school by taking her exams, her family was unable to pay for her to continue her studies further. They lived on her father’s meager income as a day laborer and there was simply no money to spare. Ayesha, like her friends and many low-income families in Pakistan, were looking at a future limited to daily domestic work.

At a critical moment, Bedari’s field coordinator was able to meet with Ayesha, who shared that she and her friends were unhappy doing domestic work; they had a deep hunger to continue learning. The field coordinator consulted with Ayesha’s parents and encouraged them to readmit her to school with the support from Girls Education International.

They agreed!

Now, Ayesha is on the path to fulfill her dream to become a teacher and build the foundation for the next generation of students in her community! This story could have ended differently for Ayesha, but because of your support she and her friends are studying once again.

Because of their tenacity to hold onto their educational aspirations, these students will create a ripple effect in their communities. Indeed, that is how they see it in their own words:

“We three are role models to many. It motivates others to see us because people know the background of our families, and they think ‘if they managed to reach this stage, that means our daughters can too.’” - Naila

“I hope to support other vulnerable girls to access education.” - Muqadas

“I along with my two friends am teaching the kids in the evening so that more kids from our Dhok can take admission in elementary school. Currently, we are only three girls who took admission in elementary school because of Bedari’s support. We aim to shake the world with our determination, courage and education.” - Ayesha

Thank you for supporting these girls’ access to education so that they can “shake the world”!
