3 students, who were supported at Kigwe Primary School for the deaf, talk about their progress at Matumbulu Vocational Training College (MVTC) for the Deaf. They highlight the benefits of gaining practical skills, taught using Tanzanian Sign Language, over being educated in secondary schools with no provision for deaf people. There are many more Tanzanian young people needing support like this and your donations go a long way to helping them realise their dreams.
My name is Everine. I got my primary education at Kigwe Primary School for the Deaf. This school built me and taught me a lot despite the challenge of deafness. Now I am studying tailoring. I love this course because it makes me confident and gives me skills to be self-reliant. My dream is to be a professional tailor, sewing school uniforms and women's clothes, and finally to open my own workshop.
I am very happy to study at Matumbulu because teachers teach using Sign Language, and we get equal education like others.
My name is Regina. I passed well at Kigwe and was selected to join secondary education. However, I could not continue with that because of big communication challenges in the classroom. I decided to join a vocational college to fulfil my dream of becoming a good tailor and entrepreneur in clothes. I love sewing and my dream is to have my own sewing machine and sew for people in my community.
I thank God and my parents for giving me a chance to continue studying where Sign Language is used and I understand everything.
My name is Mathayo. I completed my primary education at Kigwe Primary School for the Deaf, where I passed well. I then joined secondary school but could not continue my studies due to communication challenges. My big dream is to become a professional welder and metal fabrication expert.
I am very grateful to my parents for bringing me to this college, where teachers use Sign Language to teach and ensure that we, the deaf students, receive all the information and learn effectively.
