By Jackie Horstmann | D.C. buildOn Chapter President
Fantastic supporters,
I am excited to write my first report as the new D.C. buildOn chapter president! My name is Jackie Horstmann and in addition to leading the D.C. Chapter, I am also the Director of Development and Communications at Critical Exposure.
In January, I was first introduced to buildOn when I travelled to Nepal to build a primary school. I was immediately inspired to get involved in D.C. You can read more about my personal journey on buildOn's blog.
With knowledge of the D.C. education landscape, and the personal experience of funding, traveling, and experiencing a buildOn Trek, I am excited to lead our team to success.
As you know, in 2013 the buildOn's D.C. Chapter and Eastern High School's buildOn Club sent six students to Malawi, Africa to construct the foundation of a school for a village in need. The students from Eastern HS returned home inspired by their experienced and convinced that more students like themselves should participate in this transformational journey.
This year, the buildOn Club at Eastern hopes to send at least two students to Malawi and to build the foundation of another school! For every $4,000 raised, one student will be able to participate in this life-changing trek. Proceeds go directly toward travel costs and the construction costs of building the school.
Thinking more long-term, the D.C. Chapter also plans on sending at least six students to Malawi in 2015. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I am confident that with your support we can reach our goals.
Thank you!
Jackie Horstmann
