Dear donors and friends:
It's almost springtime in Cape Town and the chilly winter rains are giving way to bright sunshine and warmer temperatures. We hope this report on five of the children you are helping to attend school will help warm your heart, wherever you are and no matter the season. All of the children, with the exception of Raphael, have been sponsored by Love to Langa for at least the past two years.
Juanicka is now age four and in Teacher Patronella's Springbokke class. Patronella reports that Juanicka is communicating well with her peers and teachers. She is learning to sound out letters in the language shelf. She enjoys tracing the sand paper letters on papers.
With Juanicka in the same class is Nadine. Patronella says, "Nadine is communicating well her teachers and peers. She is able to count up to 10. She enjoys working with frames in the practical life area. She enjoys circle time where she sits next to her friends and participates in the activities. She is a joy to have in class."
Melody is in Teacher Phumeza's three-year-old Kangaroos class. She says, "We are pleased with her school attendance considering her home circumstances. She is communicating well with her peers and teachers. She enjoys painting, coloring in and play dough. We are happy with her progress."
Raphael is also in Kangaroos and Phumeza says, "he can communicate well with his teachers and peers. He is able to count and cut. His eye-hand coordination is good. He enjoys outside time and playing on the jungle gyms. He is progressing well."
We met Tyron when he was two years old and we were very worried about him. He was clearly suffering the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome and was very small and withdrawn. He is now is Teacher Elizabeth's Squirrels Grade R class and is a much more engaged five-year-old. Elizabeth says, "Tyron is doing very well in school. He is doing well in his mathematics. He likes to work with blocks and shapes. He has a good understanding of his numbers and concepts. He is adapting well with his language."
These five children attend Philippi Children's Centre, where we are currently constructing the Love to Langa Swimming Academy. We also sponsor 10 children at Mfuleni Early Childhood Centre and there is a brief video linked below with thanks from Kissmea, our South African board member, and the children at that school.
We are so grateful for your support!
