Send 70 At-risk Children to School in Thailand

During this term, the HDS has had many different things happening. This term we had a 10 member group of ISV (International Student Volunteer) coming to help out. We had one group over a two-weeks period doing anything and everything they could around the HDS’s grounds. They worked on construction projects such as finishing the new gate to the center. The volunteers furthermore taught the students English as well as some new games and activities!

Another highlight of this term was on June 24, when DEPDC had a ceremony to open the Dhamma Center, when food has been donated to monks and receive prayers for success. Vice Governor of Chiang Rai was our guest of honor and held an opening speech, before 8 members of local organizations that work with women and children gave presentations. After that 6 former daughters of DEPDC talked about their experiences at DEPDC and how their knowledge has helped them. The children were able to learn from the speakers and build a network of people for support.

On August 10-11, DEPDC/HDS’s students with the help of a few teachers, planted rice to help support the lunch program and will continue to help and learn throughout the entire rice-growing process.  Before we started the process the teachers and the children cut the grass, plowed the field and prepared the area for rice breeding. Afterwards they sowed rice breeding and transplanted the paddy in the field.
