DEPDC/GMS alongside many other organizations, cities, and countries has been affected by Covid-19. The government of Thailand took precautionary measures to help flatten the curve of viral infections. These precautionary regulations included curfews, mandatory mask wearing as well as the closing of schools and other businesses. In adherence to these regulations DEPDC closed HDS. All of us here at DEPDC are keeping a close watch on the state of affairs and staying up to date on plans for reopening. As of now, the government plans on allowing schools to reopen July 1st, 2020.
The normal schools can teach their students via online resources and the government has a TV channel for online education. Unfortunately, some of HDS’s students aren’t able to study at home because they don’t have mobile phones, television, or internet. Often parents and family don’t have enough money to purchase the necessary technology for children to study at home. In addition to this hardship, the families of HDS’s students don’t have enough food to feed all the members of their family.
DEPDC has been providing support to HDS’s students and families with dried food. We believe at this time food is more important than anything else. We are working with a strong network to support students and other people who have been affected by Covid-19 with food.
We have offered this support 3 times so far by supplying rice and brown rice, eggs, oil for cooking, canned fish, salt, dried noodles, and 4 face masks (during the first round of donations). This has provided support for 29 families and 99 beneficiaries.
We will continue to support our communities as best as we can and will reopen the school when government policy allows us to to do. We very much look forward to the day when we can safely welcome back our amazing students and staff! On behalf of all of us here at DEPDC we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our past, current, and future donors. Your generous support allows us to continue our mission, even if in modified form, during these challenging times.
