Library becomes a platform for social Inclusion

Dear Partners, we have been able to raise $6830 so far! This quarter, we have been successful in organizing different inclusive activities for children including children with disability through your donations! Inclusive activities at library has been one of the favorite alternatives  for children where they not only read but also get involved in other fun activities such as playing carom board, solving jigsaw puzzles, drawing etc.

Recently play materials and books for children were added in the library which included story books, coloring books, translation books from Oriya to English and books containing poems. Different inclusive activities are organised for children every Sunday. The excitement among the children to visit the library has increased manifolds since then. The children who used to come alone have now started bringing their three four friends from the neighborhood along! They even come from a distance of about 6-7 Kilometers to read and participate in activities.

The library has become a platform for “social inclusion” where everybody irrespective of their abilities or disabilities get together to enjoy and grow together.  Scenes of enthusiastic children pushing wheel chairs of their wheelchair user friends are a common sight. Few of the children remarked such as “coming to the library gives me great pleasure and happiness”, “I have been able to improve my vocabulary through translation books”, “I have gained more knowledge in certain subjects”. Such remarks encourage us to keep up the good work and organize more such activities. Earlier only 7-8 children used to come but now the number has increased to about 50 children visiting the library every Sunday. Moreover, few of the children also bring their parents along and few novels have been brought for the adults who accompany children. Isn’t that all great!

Your donations have played a significant role in bringing this change where aaina staff does not have to think twice now before buying necessary books for children and organizing inclusive activates for children. A heart warming thanks to you all! Our next step now is to start working towards arranging transportation for 20 children with disability to schools and college for at least a year to avoid dropouts and interferences in attendance. This will amount to about $2000. We truly look forward for your continued partnership in the process as we progress to reach our goal of inclusive education. Thanks once again!!!
