Together We Can Make a Difference

By Smriti Mohanty | Programme Manager

10 year old Surjit Singh (name changed), who has intellectual disability and speech problem, couldn’t cope up with anyone except his family members. Now he is desperate to come to the centre to meet with his peers and teachers.

Before Surjit came to Aaina he was not cooperating with people outside his family. He could not sit still for long periods of time and could not concentrate in doing specific tasks. He was not helping his mother in household work. He was not willing to play with his peer groups. He was unable to do the day to day activities that were expected of him.

He joined Aaina on 15th March 2018 and after regular intervention and therapy, he now cooperates with his teachers and parents and he is also able to perform his activities of daily living. He can identify vegetables, fruits, colors and letter A-Z, His socializing skills have improved. He is also getting along with well with his peers. His speaking skills have also improved. He can now say MAA (meanig mother), BABA (meanig father), BHAI (meanig brother), BYE, etc. He even helps his mother with household chores.

Swati Singh (name changed), Surjit's mother says, “I am happy with the development of Gul ( his nick name). Now I can visualize him carrying out his activities independently. I thank the Aaina team for helping him in this journey.”

Our goal is to make him an independent individual who can cope with daily life without any hindrance.

We would be greatful if you could spread the message among your near and dear one's, also if  you have any  suggestions for us, we would love to hear from you.
